In 1601, Francisca San Vitores de la Portilla arranged in her will, to economically support the building of the main chapel and to be buried in this building. The first building was disliked for its simplicity and modest size, so the patrons pressured the Jesuits to rebuilt it. Finally, in 1694 the octagon shaped church was completed. After the expulsion of the Society of Jesus it was turned into a parish.
It stands out because of its main Baroque facade, where we can see the image of San Lorenzo with his iconic gridiron. On the inside its dome, main altarpiece and the sepulchre of its benefactor Francisca San Vitores stand out.
