The monastery of Santa Clara constitutes a faithful testimony to the importance of the implementation of religious orders in the development of the city on the banks of the river Arlanzón.

It was founded in the 13th century and was supported by the Salamanca and Polanco families, who financed the expansion and improvement work. Its interior space offers a Gothic architecture influenced by the cathedral. It has Baroque altarpieces on its main altar.

From the original building of the 13th century, the chancel and the transept have been preserved. Inside, you can find resplendent Baroque altarpieces, made during the 18th century by brothers, Luis and Manuel Cortés del Valle.

This monastery was established in the city in 1234.
