Don Jerónimo Pardo, Canon of the cathedral and Abbot of San Quirce founded a hospital to care for the poor and sick of the city of Burgos. It was Canon Don Pedro de Barrantes y Aldana, who began building this healthcare establishment, providing it with more revenue. Throughout its history it has belonged, and continues to belong to, the Cathedral Chapter. It was famous for its apothecary.
In the 18th century, this hospital specialised in surgical care. Nowadays it is a nursing home. There are still some remains of the ancient hospital, like its front door, built in a classic style, and its chapel with a beautiful altarpiece from the 18th century. It was the work of brothers Luis and Manuel Cortés del Valle. At the beginning of the 20th century it was extended quite significantly. In the entrance patio there is a group of sculptures, done in 1945 by local artist Fortunato Julián, which represent the founders of the centre.
