This Renaissance style building was commissioned by Cardinal Iñigo Lopez de Mendoza y Zuñiga. It was founded in 1579 as San Nicolas’ school, dedicated to the poor children of city. Its main facade stands out where you can see the Coat of Arms of the Velasco and Mendoza families. Since 1957 it has been Cardenal Lopez de Mendoza high school.

Since 1905 it has housed the Natural Science Museum.
