If you visit the Military Museum of Burgos, you will enter the rich history that the city has with the army and visit a key place in the history of modern Spain. The historic building that houses the museum, the palace of the General Captaincy, was the headquarters of the troops during the Civil War (1936-1939) and the place where the end of the conflict was declared. This building was built after the demolition of the ‘Casa de las Cuatro Torres’ to house the headquarters of the 6th Military Region and regional command.

It is structured in 5 spaces; the museum allows the visitor to discover first-hand the different regimes that have had their base in Burgos. It is a journey back through time of military history, with a large collection of uniforms, scientific instruments, transmissions and medical equipment. The Enigma encryption machine deserves a special mention, which was vital in deciphering German communications during World War II and which changed the course of the war.

Other sections of the museum include information about the main military actions carried out by local members of the army and an impressive collection of military flags and banners linked to Burgos.
