This automaton situated inside Burgos Cathedral, on top of the cathedral clock, has become, throughout its history, one of the most emblematic and peculiar features in Burgos. Every hour on the hour, the Papamoscas, moves his arm so that a bell tells the time while opening its mouth to count the hours. Hence its name. This is why the best time to watch the Papamoscas is midday. The actual device dates from the 18th century and replaced a previous one.

Next to it there is a smaller mechanical device called Martinillo, which strikes every quarter moving its arms and ringing two small bells.
