This gate was one of the twelve entrances to the city and, like San Esteban gate, it was built by Moorish artists in the 14th century. It stands out because of its circular towers; its horseshoe arches and the mixed use of bricks and stone. For many centuries, it was the main gate to the city. It was the entrance for the kings until it was replaced by the Gate of Santa María, next to the River Arlanzon.
This is the exit arch of the city for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
